Essence of a Lady is all about educating, mentoring and empowering youth through the philanthropy of adults.
Essence of a Lady has been in existence since 1989. It began as a social and charitable organization with 23 other women. In 1993, its founder, Dr. JoAnn Ajayi-Scott, organized its first “Ladies Only?Conference with over 15 presenters, 25 vendors and over 40 attendees. In 2003, Essence of a Lady was incorporated and changed its focus. In July, 2003, seven women came together to develop E’Ladies Network. August, 2003, Young Essence Ladies..Learning (YELL!) was created to provide mentoring and programming for girls between the ages of 13-19 years old. For more info on YELL! or Y-ME? Our Mission
Educate, MENTOR, and Empower youth and young adults to develop leadership, career, and social skills for successful transition from high school to college or entrepreneurship through the philanthropic support of adults.
Our Purpose
All youth and young adults will be provided the tools, resources, and financial support needed to develop career, leadership and social skills through mentorship, scholarships, apprenticeship or internship through partnerships of business owners, nonprofits and community leaders.
Our Goal
Bring at least 1000 adults together to further the vision and mission of Essence of a Lady through its 6 signature program groups: YELL! Girls (school-age to college) Y-ME? Boys E'Ladies Network of Philanthopists (parents, volunteers and community supporters) E'Men's Network Fabulous Females (Business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and corporations) aMazing Males
